Luxurious, mindful digs for outdoor enthusiasts.
A rustic Wild West throwback; it's less "lodge," more "sanctuary."
Like all Amanresorts, Amangani is intimate, remote, understated and perfectly synchronized with its surroundings. Cut into the top of Gros Ventre Butte, 7,000 feet above sea level, the resort is a striking example of how contemporary design can work in even the most naturalistic of settings. With shoulder-deep sunken tubs, finely crafted sandstone balconies, platform beds and window-side daybeds, the 40 suites are warm and chic. But the decor takes a backseat to the dramatic panorama of the Grand Tetons. The property is nestled inside a protected park, giving guests the opportunity to view migrating moose, elk and the like in the winter. Jackson Hole also hosts some of the best skiing in the country; Amangani shuttles guests to and from the resort's private ski lounge at the base of Rendezvous Mountain, providing access to almost 2,500 acres of slopes and trails. In summer, the resort is a gateway to outdoor adventures—everything from hiking and horseback riding to hot-air ballooning and fly-fishing. Grand Teton National Park is about 20 minutes up the road; the south entrance to Yellowstone an hour further. Returning to the hotel after a long day outdoors, a massage at the sandstone-and-redwood spa is in order. But really, the view from the heated infinity pool alone could cure any ache.
You’re looking for a high-end base camp for summer adventures or winter sports, and prefer a secluded location to ski-in/ski-out access.
Flushed from a day criss-crossing Rendezvous Mountain, you head to the Zinc Bar for a much-needed après ski cocktail. From one of the wrought iron stools, whiskey-warmed, you watch the sunset paint the snow-covered meadow violet—and begin to feel the tip of your nose again.
