The undisputed grandest grand dame of New York hotels since 1907, with 282 rooms, a Guerlain spa, and a legendary afternoon tea.
Anything short of an icon. The French Renaissance chateau-inspired building had starring roles in Audrey Hepburn’s Sabrina (1954), Robert Redford & Barbara Streisand’s The Way We Were (1973), etc...
The Beatles stayed here. Truman Capote hosted his famed “Black and White Ball” here. Marlene Dietrich moved in, and hired Lady Mendl to revamp her suite (317-325). Suffice to say: The Plaza knows how to pamper a luminary, because it is a luminary. We love that guest rooms maintain their traditional sensibility, with gilded Rococo furniture, 24-carat gold-plated bathroom fixtures, and solid marble vanities; they’re also quite large for New York, starting at 475-square-feet. We recommend splurging on a Central Park view...why not? It’s what New York dreams are made of.
New York is a “go big or go home” kind of town, and the Plaza exemplifies that—whether you want to hit The Plaza Food Hall for edible delights (Laduree Paris macarons; Olma caviar; Epicerie Boulud croissants) or shop the on-site boutiques for oh, say, J.F.K.’s former fragrance of choice at Krigler.
Sometimes you have to ask yourself: What Would Eloise Do? At the Plaza, she’d bounce directly to The Palm Court, with or without Skipperdee in tow, for afternoon tea, which is always rawther exciting. On the menu today: beet & goat cheese gateaux with pistachio crumble, hibiscus-pineapple chouquette, and plenty of just-baked scones served with Devonshire Cream. Frankly, you cawn’t cawn’t cawn’t believe how delicious it all is!
